Top quality hay delivered to you

We only make hay if the conditions are perfect. All our hay is weed free and made to a high quality and we produce four sizes of bales to suit different requirements.

  • Small square bale, 90cm width x 90cm height x 135cm length
  • Medium round bale, 120cm diameter x 120cm length (24% larger than the small square bale)
  • Large square bale, 90cm wide x 90cm high x 240cm length (43% larger than the medium round bale)

In addition to the round and square bales, we also supply small traditional bales. These are ideal where the larger round and square bales are impractical.

  • Traditional small bale, 38cm width x 45cm height x 76cm length

The small square bales and the medium round bales are easily maneuvered by one person and is therefore very suitable for smaller units. The medium round is significantly larger (24% by volume) and obviously heavier but being round it is still easy to maneuver. For large units that have machinery to assist movement, the large square bale offers value for money. All bales can be delivered and we would be more than pleased to quote for delivery, the cost of which will depend upon distance and quantity. See our delivery map for areas covered. For customers further afield, you are welcome to collect but please contact us first.

Securely wrapped haylage for outdoor storage

Our haylage is made from a high quality grass mix that is wrapped 8 times on square bales and 6 times on round bales in a high quality, self adhesive wrap. This prevents oxygenation and protects the haylage from the weather, thus allowing for all year round storage outdoors if required. We supply two sizes of haylage bales:

  • Small square bale, 90cm width x 90cm height x 120cm length
  • Medium round bale, 120cm diameter x 120cm length (40% larger than the small square bale)

Ideally, haylage should be used within 6 days once opened, or up to 10 days in the winter. So work out your usage requirements and if it is unlikely to use a whole medium sized bale within the advised time-scales, you may wish to consider either the smaller haylage bale or using hay as an alternative. As with all our products, haylage bales can be delivered and we would be more than pleased to quote for delivery, the cost of which will depend upon distance and quantity. See our delivery map for areas covered. For customers further afield, you are welcome to collect but please contact us first.

Best quality straw for fodder and bedding

Straw is a terrific, natural alternative to wood shavings. We can supply both wheat and barley straw and select only the cleanest, best quality available. Our straw comes in three sizes for your convenience

  • Small square bale, 90cm width x 90cm height x 120cm length
  • Medium round bale, 120cm diameter x 120cm length (40% larger than the small square bale)
  • Large square bale, 90cm wide x 90cm high x 240cm length (43% larger than the medium round bale)

One benefit of the small square bale, apart from being relatively easy to move around, is that it fits through a typical stable door thus making it an extremely practical size. As with all our products, straw bales can be delivered and we would be more than pleased to quote for delivery, the cost of which will depend upon distance and quantity. See our delivery map for areas covered. For customers further afield, you are welcome to collect but please contact us first.

* Dimensions & Volumes are approximate. W = Width, H = Height, L = Length and D = Diameter * Manoeuvrability is dependent upon an individuals size and strength. If in doubt, seek Health and Safety advice and read about Bale Safety * Delivery cost based on distance and quantity. See our ‘group‘ buying scheme to massively reduce your delivery costs if you are a small but regular buyer.

The hay4u Group Scheme

One of the big problems for small customers is the delivery cost. So we have devised a scheme where a group of small customers in an area can organise a group delivery. Products will still be delivered to each individual stables or farm but the cost of delivery will be shared equally across the products between all within the group. This massively reduces the cost to customers and as an added benefit improves our ‘green’ credentials by using a lot less fuel. So have a chat with some of your colleagues in your area and see if you can create a group delivery of up to 30 bales. See the example below (click the + to open it).

Paddock Services - Seasonal Picture

Paddock Care

Throughout the spring, summer & autumn, it’s a good time to plan to get your paddocks in tip-top condition. We have setup some new specialist equipment which includes a powerful ATV (quad bike) onto which is fitted a purpose designed sprayer, fertiliser spinner, chain harrows and a ‘broadcast’ seeder for the accurate application of grass seed. Additionally we use a very heavy, flat roll towed behind a traditional tractor.

The care and application of best practice of looking after your grassland safeguards your livestock from potentially dangerous plants such as ragwort, via good management will reduce the risk of worm infestations and is a very efficient way to get more out of your existing resources by reducing competition from weeds and encouraging growth of fresh grass .

We can assist in many ways and initially we look to provide services for

  • Spraying broad leaved weeds such as Ragwort, Thistles, Nettles, Buttercup, Dandelions, Docks, Plantains – all in a single application.
  • Fertilising to accurately apply fertiliser of your choice for paddock maintenance or intensive hay production or grazing depending on your requirements and soil analysis.
  • Harrowing to pull out dead thatch, spread muck, level mole hills, aerate the soil, improve water infiltration & expose fungi & bacteria to sunlight. Harrowing and resting the field will also reduce the risk of worm infestation.
  • Over-seeding + Harrowing. Chain harrowing opens the sward,  removes dead grass and provides a tilth for the introduction of new seed to give paddocks fresh, new grass growth.
  • Heavy flat rolling to reduce hoof marks and help over-seeded germination.

About hay4u

Fodder Products

We have been producing top quality hay and more recently haylage at Yew Tree Farm since I was knee high to a grass hopper. As well as producing our own produce on the family farm, we make thousands of bales for other people. We are fortunate to have regular customers who know that the hay, haylage and straw that we sell is consistently of good quality. With wrapped products (haylage) which remains sealed till opened by the customer, if very occasionally a less than perfect bale is unwrapped we will replace it FOC without hesitation. So, we have a pretty good idea about how to produce consistently good quality products and our customers are happy to back this up.

Paddock Care

In the back-end of 2017, we extended our business to include ‘Paddock Care’ in readiness for full operation from the spring of 2018. This followed an increasing demand from our fodder customers to carry out a variety of tasks on their paddocks, but with paddocks being relatively small, traditional, large farm equipment wasn’t ideal. So we have purchased specialised equipment to enable us to be far more mobile, to have equipment that is built for the purpose and to be able to carry out a variety of tasks far more efficiently. The use of the equipment builds on 30 years experience and our team can certainly assist in keeping your paddocks safe and productive.
